About The Mobility for All Project: 

Over the last two years, the Mobility For All project has examined the entire Rapid fixed-route system with public input, technical analysis, and stakeholder outreach. With formal approval from The Rapid’s Board of Directors, these changes are designed to provide the best service for as many customers as possible.

This is a budget-neutral plan: in order to make improvements on the routes with the highest demand and usage, service on routes with low demand and usage must be decreased or repurposed in other areas.

Our team at The Rapid understands that these changes will cause disruptions for some riders, and we are committed to providing information and assistance to make this transition as smooth as possible.

Route Renumbering:

Some routes will be renumbered as of Monday, August 30, 2021. The following routes will be changed:

• Route 16 will be renumbered as Route 3 (Wyoming/Rivertown)
• Route 17 will be renumbered as Route 27 (Airport/Industrial)

Route 28 east of Woodland Mall will be renumbered as Route 29 (East 28^th Street)

Route Realignments:

Route 1 – Division/Madison

Route 1 will serve the section of Route 3 on Madison Avenue between Franklin and Burton.

Route 1 will also serve Gezon Parkway to Metro Health Village every 30 minutes. Route 1 will no longer serve Division south of 54^th Street, 68^th Street, or Clyde Park (this loop serving parts of Byron Township will be served by Route 10 – Clyde Park).

Route 2 – Kalamazoo

Route 2 will no longer serve Kentwood City Hall. The route will continue on Kalamazoo Avenue and terminate at the Gaines Meijer. Route 44 (44^th Street) will continue to serve Kentwood City Hall.

Route 2 near downtown will travel on Jefferson instead of Ionia.

Route 4 – Eastern

Route 4 is being streamlined near the southern end of its alignment to travel on Eastern, through Woodfield Apartments, on 60th Street, and finally to Gaines Meijer. Route 4 will no longer serve 52nd Street and Kalamazoo Avenue between 52nd and 60th.

Route 5 - Wealthy

Route 5's alignment between Rapid Central Station and Woodland Mall will not change, however, the Route 5 alignment from Woodland Mall serving East Paris, 36th Street, Kraft and 33rd Street will now be served Route 27 (Airport Industrial).

Route 7 – West Leonard

Route 7 will continue serving Walker City Hall until the new on-demand service is implemented (planned for January 2022.)

Route 8 – Prairie/Rivertown

Route 8 will no longer operate on 44^th Street near the southern end of the route. It will stay on Wilson and enter Rivertown Mall via Century Center Street.

Route 9 – Alpine

Route 9 will no longer serve Pearl Street. Route 9 will travel on Monroe to Bridge.

Route 10  - Clyde Park

Route 10 will travel straight on Clyde Park to 54^th Street, where it will now serve the 54^th Street/Division/68^th Street/Clyde Park loop previously served by Route 1 (Division).

Route 11 – Plainfield

Route 11 will now extend to serve the Plainfield Meijer north of 4 Mile Road.

Route 12 – Westside

Route 12 will now serve the section of Route 18 from Rapid Central Station to Bridge street.

Route 15 – East Leonard

Route 15 will no longer serve the East Beltline or Leonard east of Leffingwell.

Route 16 – Wyoming/Metro Health

Route 16 will be renumbered as Route 3 and will no longer travel down Byron Center south of 44^th Street to terminate at Metro Health Village (Metro Health will be served by Route 1 – Division). Instead, it will stay on 44^th Street and terminate at Rivertown Mall.

Route 17 – Airport/Industrial

Route 17 will be renumbered as Route 27 and will serve 29^th Street, East Paris, 36^th Street, Kraft, 33^rd Street, and Patterson, in addition to the airport.

Route 24 – Burton

Route 24 will no longer serve Fairlanes Avenue, but will travel on Ivanrest and terminate at the Rivertown Mall.

Route 28 – 28^th Street West

Route 28 will be extended west to serve Fairlanes Avenue, previously served by Route 24 (Burton).
